In August 2022, the poet Jörg Piringer took over our Instagram page for a month. Piringer was our second guest Instagram curator after Cia Rinne in February 2022. There he posted a series of his audiovisual poetry pieces that provide insight into his work.
Piringer’s artistic practice encompasses, among other things, electronic music, sound and visual poetry, performance art, video art, computer games and poetic software. His work explores the processes of machine learning and experiments with various forms of generative writing. His latest book datenpoesie (data poetry, Ritterverlag, 2018) presents the texts of his game poems. In 2020 he was a guest artist at the Ingeborg Bachmann Award with his text “kuzushi” that was partly generated by a program developed by Piringer. A selection of his works, including radio plays and documentation of live performances and sound installations, can be found at his comprehensive homepage: https://joerg.piringer.net/
Our research project collaborated with Piringer in the past: at last year’s Munich conference one: to another, he took part in the panel discussion on the possibilities and limits of digital poetry alongside Wiebke Vorrath and Andreas Bülhoff (recording available at: https://www.poetry-digital-age.uni-hamburg.de/en/forschung/medien/audio-und-videomaterial.html).
Jörg Piringer’s and Cia Rinne’s contributions will remain available on our Instagram page @ercpoetryda. Twice a year we give the curatorial reigns to our Instagram profile to a guest poet for a month. With this series we aim to expand the collaboration between art and research in our project, explore the possibilities of poetic practices in digital media and increase the presence of poetry on Instagram.
