Prof. Daniela Silva de Freitas, PhD (SP1)
Daniela Silva de Freitas is Professor of English Literatures at Universidade Federal de Alfenas, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Her primary research area is contemporary American and Brazilian literature, with a particular interest in the relationship between issues of nation, gender, race, class and their intersectionalities. In her dissertation at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica in Rio de Janeiro in Literature, Culture and Contemporaneity she analyzed rap and slam in São Paulo. On this topic, she published, among other articles, the essay "Poetry and citizenship: notes on slam poetry in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro from 2016-2020", that appeared in Brasiliana: Journal for Brazilian Studies. In addition, she has published on themes such as auto/ biography and life writing, (migrant) women’s writing, hip-hop culture and slam poetry in Brazil.
She is the head of the research group "Re-writing: shifting textualities" and a member of the interdisciplinary research group "Cosmological heritages and extramodern becomings".
In the ERC-Project, she is affiliated to Sub-project 1: "Audioliterary Poetry between Performance and Mediatization". Freitas de Silva will present her reserach on poetry slam in Brazil in the frame of a public workshop on Dec. 6 under the title "Notes on Slam Poetry in Contemporary Brazil".
