Prof. Hans Kristian Strandstuen Rustad, PhD (SP3)
Hans Kristian S. Rustad is Professor of Scandinavian Literature at the University of Oslo. He does research on modernism and contemporary poetry, and on literature’s relationship to other artforms and media, in particular photography. His latest book is Fotopoetikk. Om dikt og fotografi i norsk lyrikk, 2017 [Photopoetics. On Poems and Photographs in Norwegian Poetry]; his latest article “Comme en prenant des photographies. La poésie contemporaine au-delà de l’ekphrasis modern” [“As if Taking Photographs. Contemporary Poetry Beyond Modern Ekphrasis”]. Furthermore, he has finalized a book manuscript on poetry readings as a co-author together with Louise Mønster and Michael Kallesøe Schmidt (under review).
He is one of the founders and editors of the journal Nordisk poesi. Tidsskrift for lyrikkforskning [Nordic Poetry. Journal for Poetry Research], and member of the executive board for the International Network for the Study of Lyric (INSL). In 2023 he will hold the forth bi-annual conference of the network in Oslo.
Currently, Rustad is working on a book about Scandinavian poetry in the time of computational and network media, and on an article on the significance of place in Wim Wender’s photobooks. In the ERC-Project, he is affiliated to Sub-project 3: “Poetry and Contemporary Visual Culture”. During his stay in Hamburg he works on the book mentioned above and will participate as a speaker in the public ‘Poetry Debate’ on “Eco-Criticism in Poetry: Engaging Climate Changes” on Nov. 24, 2021.
